Lip fillers

Lip fillers

Lips have always been one of the most attractive parts of a woman’s body and one of the first things our eyes caught when looking at another human being. Beautiful, plump and well-defined lips are the symbol of youthfulness and femininity.

Unfortunately, the ageing process does not spare our lips so over time they become thinner and smaller. By enhancing your lips with dermal fillers, you can restore the lost plumpness and make them look beautiful, sensual and youthful once again.

Most of our clients who undergo this treatment are young women with either thin lips or less lip volume who want bigger and more defined lips, more pronounced cupid’s bow and philtrum ridges or more lip volume.

For all our dermal filler treatments, including lip augmentation, we only use the best dermal fillers on the market. We do not use permanent lip filler like Aquamid, but only temporary resorbable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvederm or Teoxane.

How does the treatment look like?

Prior to the treatment, you will have a consultation with dr. Matic during which you will discuss any issues you may have with your lips, your expectations and go through all the aspects of the procedure.

The lip augmentation procedure is quick and simple and lasts 20-30 minutes. Lips are very sensitive so for lip augmentation we only use the best fillers on the market with a built-in anaesthetic which helps to minimise pain. Furthermore, we routinely apply additional anaesthetic cream as well. There are different injecting techniques. Depending on how you want your lips to look like, the filler is injected either in the vermilion border for more subtle and defined lips or in the lip body to give you more lip volume. Combination of the two techniques is also possible which gives shape and volume together.

After the injections, your lips will be massaged in order to eliminate any possibility of lumps.

What is the lip filler recovery time?

The recovery time from the common side effects of the treatment such as bruising and swelling is 2-3 days but otherwise, you can continue with your normal daily routine straight after the procedure.

How long does lip filler last and when do I need top-up?

Lip filler lasts about 6-12 months. During or after this period it is possible to have further treatment to maintain or improve the result if felt necessary. With repeated treatments, the results last even longer.

When will I see the results?

You will see the results straight after the treatment and this is one of the treatments which instantly puts a smile on your face when you look at yourself in the mirror.

The initial swelling will go down 20-30% in few days following the treatment so the final result is slightly less volume than straight after the treatment. You can expect to see the full effect in one to two weeks following the treatment.

What happens if I do not have repeated treatments?

Hyaluronic acid is a temporary dermal filler which resorbs gradually over time so if you do not have repeated treatments your lips will return to their previous appearance.

Is lip filler permanent?

Lip filler is not a permanent procedure because we use temporary hyaluronic acid dermal fillers which resorb over time. The effects of the treatment stay for 6-12. There are different factors which affect the duration of the results of treatment such as ageing and your lifestyle.

Is lip filler painful?

Lips are very sensitive and lip filler treatment is more painful than other dermal filler treatments. Therefore, for lip filler treatment we only use the best fillers on the market with a built-in anaesthetic which helps to minimise pain.

Furthermore, we routinely apply additional anaesthetic cream as well for 15 minutes before the treatment.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects are bruising, swelling, redness and lip sensitivity which resolve within few days after the treatment.

Can lip filler be reversed?

If hyaluronic acid based dermal filler was used for lip augmentation then it can be reversed with the use of hyaluronidase. Hyalase/Hyaluronidase dissolves the hyaluronic acid based fillers in just a few hours. If permanent filler was used, it can be only removed through a surgery and this is the reason why we always recommend hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to be used for lip filler treatments.

Post Treatment Advice

Post-treatment advice for individuals who had lip filler is the same as it is for all dermal fillers procedures. The only thing to add is not to drink any hot drinks (coffee, tea) for 24-48 hours after the procedure.
